Useful things to include

1. The address. A raised beach house on Folly Beach, a shaded lot in Summerville and a new home in Goose Creek rest on very different soil, drain differently and are reached differently, so the address alone answers several questions ahead of time.
2. The job, in a sentence, plus a ballpark footprint. Maybe a driveway widened for a third car, a back patio, a stair up to an elevated entry, a pad for the boat or shed, or a broken slab that needs to come out. Paced-off length and width will do.
3. What will sit on it. Only cars, or also a pickup, camper, boat on a trailer, hot tub or shop equipment. The heavier the load, the more the stone base, the depth and the steel have to change.
4. What covers the spot today. Lawn, gravel, pavers, old concrete or asphalt. If something must be removed first, breaking it out and hauling it away becomes part of the job.

Pictures that tell the story

Start with a wide view that shows the full work area and what surrounds it, shot from wherever you stand to see it all. Add close-ups of cracks, sunken panels, rust stains or crumbling edges. If you can, capture the yard during or right after a downpour, showing where the water travels and where it stands. On flat Lowcountry lots, drainage shapes a lasting slab as much as the concrete does.

After you send it

A site visit comes next. Walking the yard, sighting the fall of the land and tracing a path for the ready-mix truck answers what pictures cannot, and it is the earliest point at which a genuine scope and cost exist. Request the scope in writing, covering the base, thickness, reinforcement, joints, slope and finish, so competing proposals can be compared item by item.
